The defendant was wrongly accused of striking a Philadelphia Park Authority (“PPA”) officer. The defense theory was the PPA officer fabricated allegations to divert attention from the underlying issue: there was no basis to write defendant a ticket.
Several offers were made that would have ended the case. None of the offers would have fully vindicated the defendant. On the day of trial, multiple witnesses came into court to testify. Their testimony corroborated the defendant’s assertion that he never touched the PPA officer.
After less then thirty seconds of deliberation, the defendant was found “Not Guilty” by the sitting judge. Mark D. Copoulos is evaluating a possible civil suit against PPA for damages. Defendant has expunged the record of his arrest. If you or a loved one has been wrongly charged, speak with an attorney who will pursue vindication.
